Juergen Strohmayer is a chartered architect in Austria and Ghana, whose work addresses material and typological approaches to climate change, community-oriented design, and land use. In his design and research projects, he works collaboratively by connecting with places, institutions, and people through long-term, transdisciplinary networks. Through these in-depth relationships that crosscut the architecture, art, fashion, and social activism scenes, he aims to find more sensitive and alternative spatial answers that do more with what there is already.
Completed works include Nubuke Extended, an arts campus and gallery in Accra, in collaboration with nav_s baerbel mueller, and the Fair Trade Zone, a sustainable manufacturing, agriculture, and eco-tourism hub, in collaboration with landscape architect Chrili Car.
Strohmayer lectured at the Ethiopian Institute for Architecture, Building Construction, and City Development (EiABC) between 2015 - 2016 and the University of Applied Arts Vienna between 2017 - 2021. He was nominated for the Rolex Mentor and Protegé Arts Initiative (2022) and was awarded the Tische Scholarship for Young Architects (2016). Strohmayer has exhibited at the Biennale Architettura 2023 in Venice (2023), Shibaura House in Tokyo (2023), the Austrian Cultural Forum Rome (2022), Marrakech Biennale (2016), Goethe Institut Addis Ababa (2016), and Acadia, Los Angeles (2014). He has lectured at the New Generations Festival (2022) and the African Futures Institute (2021).
Juergen Strohmayer is director and co-founder of DeRoché Strohmayer founded in 2023.
